I watched a session from 2009 entitled Engaging our Youngest Minds. While this video was about a preschooler and I will be teaching 6th and 7th graders, it still rang true to me. Its focus was on passion – creating passionate learners. And, maybe, not just creating passionate learners, but honing in on the passion that the children already possess. As the presenter discussed, the culture of the school undermines this action. We need to notice what they are engaged in and link the technology that we so badly want them to possess with the things they are interested in. Then they will see the light and know what the technology is for. I hope to be observant and integrate both my students’ passion with technology.
“Nothing great in the world can be accomplished without passion!”
